Legend of the Seeker has turned into Terry Goodkind fan fiction.

it’s like a bunch of fans got together and said, “hey, what if instead of Jennson and Richard being siblings because of lord Rahl, they had the same mother, Zedd’s daughter…. and what if Jennson showed up really early on and stole the boxes of Orden from Rahl, com’mon it makes sense since magic can’t touch her… and what if Richard didn’t kill Denna, thus turning the sword white and learning both sides of the sword’s magic, but instead let her live on the run from Rahl’s wrath…. and what if you didn’t need any fancy Book of Counted Shadows to decipher the Magic of Orden, just throw the boxes together and you’re suddenly the ruler of the world… and who cares about how it’s the Ralh line that spawns the pristinely ungifted…” (although in fairness, there was nothing that said Rahl wasn’t their father)

i’m a little proud that the moment i saw the girl with the goat, i said to myself “Jennson” but then i also thought, can’t be, this isn’t where she shows up.

despite the criticism, i rather enjoyed the episode. it was full of familiar characters even if their story was unfamiliar.

unlike Geller in previous episodes where he was completely evil and died that way. that still annoys me, though for the show it worked. it wasn’t Geller. they couldn’t have just invented a character, or used a known evil wizard or something?

i haven’t watched Heroes or Sarah Connor ’s new episodes and i don’t think i will. i wanted to watch Dollhouse and haven’t done that either. my DVR is so clogged with unwatched shows it’s criminal.

all i care about right now, honestly truely, is Battlestar Galactica (and Bones, but no new episodes for a few weeks, i think)

last week, on Battlestar Galactica when Boomer FTL jumped away with Hera, damaging Galactica in the process… actual tears came to my eyes. i may have screeched “No!” at the tv. more than once in that episode. I told chief not to trust Boomer, but no, he didn’t listen to me. now look what happened.

and it looks like Roselin is in bad shape, like dying dying this time.

and i knew that Starbuck was imagineing that piano guy, and i figured it was her dad. i did not expect her to play All Along the Watchtower. they damn well better explain where that song came from. was it a colonial song, earth song or what?

there’s only a few more episodes left. i will probably be bawling by the end of it.

I liked it for a completely non-canon episode. in this episode we learn about an ancient Seeker who fell in love with his Confessor, and apparently lost his mind to her power… to the point where their wizard had to step in and get the Confessor to commit suicide to free the Seeker from her power, but instead drove the Seeker to killing innocent people in his rage… and from this we learn that Richard and Kahlan can really really never be together.

i was entertained, but not overly impressed. i prefer episodes that somehow relate to the books.

i totally called the tracer cloud at the end … and i wonder where Zedd is going to hide the box. back in the Westlands maybe? that’s where the next episode takes place. (i saw gars in the previews, too). in the book, i think they give the box to traitorous brother Michael, who promptly turns it over to Lord Rahl.

seven minutes in and i’m annoyed already. this episode feels contrived to show flashbacks to let us know ‘the story so far’. i’m not interested in this at all, except that Giller is supposed to be in this one.

i actually want to fast forward though this flash-backy nonsense. i don’t think i’ll miss anything.

now that’s cute. Richard goes from being happy that his dad’s alive to despair that Kahlan ain’t real.

are we going to get an explanation as to how stars can appear in front of the moon (or rather what they are, cause they aren’t stars) or are the makers of this show so ignorant of astronomy?

more flash backs. fasty forwardy. my god. this whole show is staged flash-backs. thank you, but i’ve seen these episodes already.

yeh, if those are stars, the people who made this show are idiots.

why did they invent this chick when they could have used Nadine?

cue flashback. nice abs Richard.

ok. so if Darken Rahl is acting out the part of Anna. . . is that Darken Rahl kissing Richard? ewwww.

is it me, or does Giller look like he could be Rahl’s brother? i hope he’s still a good guy.

methinks that Richard isn’t going to give away the location of the box. he is the Seeker, after all.

so it’s Kahlan’s love for RIchard that brings him out of the spell. yawn. i would have rather Richard figure it out on his own.

i don’t think Giller was mantioned by name. surely he’ll return in another episode.

next week’s trailer looked good, albeit non canon.

ever since i read the Chainfire trilogy a couple of weeks ago, i don’t enjoy this show as much as i used to. i know the end of the story now, and that this whole boxes of orden quest is nothing in the scheme of things. Richard didn’t even memorize the correct Book of Counted Shadows.

what the hell. i thought Kahlan was the Mother Confessor. apparently she’s not, and this strange chick appearing from nowhere with an entourage and a night wisp is. i thought at least Kahlan’s mother was the Mother Confessor. is that true in the series?
the Mother Confessor, in her infinite wisdom has decided to round up her surviving Confessors and evacuate to a hidden island. this, naturally, will not jive with Kahlan, as she is of the Richard School of fight, don’t run. ah, the Mother chick just wanted to give Kahlan the choice. all that is left of the Confessors is the Mother and her couple of side kicks. one lost a hand to Nass, who is taking trophies.
suddenly some random guy appears looking for Kahlan’s dead sister (from the pilot episode) … only the sister can’t be dead if this guy is still under her Confessor power.
so Kahlan must find her and rescue her.
why do Confessors have such impractically long sleeves? they must catch on everything.
speaking of sleeves, Zedd just regrew that Confessor chick’s hand.
oh, so their plan is to disguise Kahlan as a Mord-Sith and walk right in. yeh. this is going to work well.
Kahlan zaps the warden and gets her to her sister.
her pregnant sister. let me guess… Rahl is the father and it’s going to be a boy. they’ll fight over whether or not it’s too dangerous to keep it alive, thus imparting certain information to us, the viewers:
1. Rahl wants a powerful male heir
2. sons of Confessors are too dangerous to let live
3. the combination of the Rahl line and the Confessor line is way too fuckin risky to let live
i hope this is the point of the episode, or something equally informative. otherwise, it’d be a waste.
and Nass is arriving soon ready to take the kid once it’s born to Rahl, who wants to raise a Confessor in his own image.
and Rahl isn’t the father, the random guy from the woods is. *yawn*
Nass arrives at the prison and the warden tries to kill him. Nass realizes what happened.
that night, the chick has the baby, but of course, it’s a complicated birth and Richard is the one with the obstetric know how to get the job done right.
and voila, instant baby.
and Richard announces triumphantly “it’s a boy”
and everyone looks horrified.
Richard: What’s wrong?
Mother Confessor: The child must die.
yup. i called it.
oh, and there’s a whole ritual to drown the child because male confessors cannot control their power.
cue Mother Confessor’s story time. she had a boy once, raised him in secret and then had to kill him at age 11 because he was evil.
Richard is willing to put up a fight to save the kid.
D’Haran’s are on their way. Nass finds where they spilled some of the ritual water and knows that a boy was born. he’s tweaking to bring Rahl a boy, cause that would like make his day.
while Richard was misleading the D’Harans, Kahlan let the guy [i don't know his name. Kahlan's sister's confessed guy, the baby's father] take the baby to kill it. Richard is pissed that Kahlan betrayed her promise not to do anything while he was gone. Richard runs out to save the baby.
Richard is playing mind games with the confessed father, convincing him that even tho he was ordered to drown the baby, that she really didn’t want it. and so Richard takes the baby and promises to protect it. so the confessed guy goes back to his mistress and was like, i thought that’s what you wanted.
Kahlan goes after Richard alone while the rest continue on to the coast to go to their safe island.
wait. the newborn infant is hungry. so richard shaves up a bit of cucumber(?) and squeezes the juice through some cheesecloth and suddenly the baby is no longer hungry. what the hell?
he wants to take the kid to the sisters of the light. Kahlan ain’t down with that.
anyhow, Zedd and Mother Confessor show up. Mother Confessor takes drastic measures by confessing Zedd, so he’ll do her bidding and forcibly take the kid. this means the Mother Confessor ain’t going to survive the episode because we know Zedd can’t stay under her power.
Zedd Vs Richard. pyrotechnics ensue. who knew the sword could deflect flames? Zedd wins.
Kahlan gives the child to Mother Confessor to save Richard.
then the other Confessors have a change of heart and find Richard and Kahlan to help… but it’s too late… or is it?
Richard goes to Nass so the Confessors can confess a couple of his men and thus increase their numbers. what? she just confessed Nass. That’s certainly not the circumstances that she confessed him in the book.
so Nass and men distract Zedd while the others go after Mother Confessor.
Zedd burns Nass to a crisp.
the child’s father sneaks up behind Mother Confessor and kills her, saving the kid.
the other Confessors elect Kahlan to be Mother Confessor.
Kahlan’s sister with the baby go off to the secret island to hopefully raise the kid in peace where he won’t grow up to be an evil menace while the other Confessors stay in the Midlands to be a force of good.

as far as non-canon episodes go, this wasn’t too bad. at least it served the purpose of explaining that male confessors aren’t suppose to live… but then it defeated the purpose of that by letting it live. but really, the show is owned by Disney; no way Disney would kill a baby.

well, at least i wasn’t completely wrong in my predictions.
next week looks like another non-canon episode.

i watched this episode last weekend. i don’t think that i’ll be writing and ranting about this show as i watch it like i do other shows. Battlestar Galactica is in another league; when i watch it, the laptop is closed.

Dualla’s suicide … damn. … she felt a bit of happiness then killed herself because she had no hope of feeling that way again. damn.

i really would not have thought Ellen was the final Cylon. on SyFy Portal they posted an article breaking down the suspects for the final Cylon and i dismissed Ellen as an obvious ‘no’. i thought it would be Gaeta, especially since he had a whole webisode series devoted to him.

as for Starbuck… she died on Earth and her ship was destroyed. so she and her ship are an exact replica of themselves. just like the final five are replicas of themselves who died on earth 2000 years ago. is Starbuck now a Cylon, and if so, was she a Cylon before? was earth originally populated by human who developed a replica/cloning technology so when they died they were remade as Cylons? or what makes the replicas? something on Earth? something outside of Earth? a machine/technology? were the final five really born in the colonies? or were they created by the Cylons/Earth-Cylon technology and planted in the colonies? are they some kind of technological reincarnation placed in the genetic code of the colonial humans?

and since the ancient earthlings/13th colony are Cylon, does that mean that the original humans who left Kobol for earth, designed Cylons and were overrun by them? or were the Cylons created on Kobol and went out to be a 13th colony on their own? is my knowledge of Battlestar universe history really messed up and i’m making completely wrong assumptions?

i’m sure i’ll find out soon enough. i could go back to the battlestar wiki encyclopedia, but that site is usually so slow, i get frustrated.

my understanding is that the series has promised to answer all questions, so i shall be patient and learn them.

next week looks like a colonial civil war to mirror the Cylon civil war.

the circumstances of this episode vastly differ from those in the book, however, i like it. overall, i have been rather impressed with how they’ve managed to squeeze in bits from the book into this series. i still wish Gellar were involved. but i guess fewer characters makes for more action with the main characters.
Zedd the entertainer. i like it.
RACHAEL. whilst the evil princess Violet goes off to get some jewelry, Zedd is left with Rachael. here’s is where he’ll do all Gellar’s stuff.
meanwhile, Richard and Kahlan attack some guards to stall Lord Rahl from going to Tammerang (sp) and getting the box. Richard kills a guard Kahlan was going to Confess because he didn’t think Kahlan was going to Confess him fast enough, and she’s pissed that Richard is being to protective. but they have the guard’s journey book.
Rachael’s back story is different, too. her family (brother too) was killed by the queen. her brother was supposed to have been killed by Nass, the child molester. so Rachael gets sent to sleep outside for talking to Zedd without permission, but first she has to go to the kitchen to complain about the princess’ lunch. the kitchen lady, who is nice to Rachael, bitches about the queen and princess, just as the queen walks in behind her. eh. i don’t know why the queen would bother herself with going to the kitchens. of course the kitchen lady is going to be executed, but Zedd mentions that it might be a bad idea to kill a cook before the princess’ birthday party, so she gets a stay of execution.
Rachael is outside and talking to her little doll Zedd gave her. the doll tells her she has to help him steal the box of orden so the queen can’t hurt anyone ever again.
Rachael sneaks back into the castle and the princess’ bedroom to take the key from the princess. she brings to to Zedd. Zedd promises that after he gets goes to get the box, he’ll take Rachael away and find her a nice family to live with.
meanwhile, Richard and Kahlan are reading the journey book and find out that Lord Rahl himself is on his way. Richard thinks he can kill him. so they write in the journey book, in blood, telling Rahl where he should go.
now princess Violet is waking up and realizes her key is gone.
Zed takes the box of Orden, leaving a decoy. then arrives Princess Violet. Zedd puts some sort of pustules on her face to scare her into not screaming. warts rather. he makes them go away, but tells her if she ever tattles on him, the warts will return. so he has the box and goes to get Rachael, who doesn’t want to leave without the cook who is going to be beheaded after the princess’ party. Zedd gives in. en route to the servant’s quarters they encounter the queen who sends guard back to watch him so that he doesn’t wondering around any more.
the next day Zedd gives Rachael instructions on how to get the box out and where to meet Richard and Kahlan.
so Rachael goes to the kitchen for a loaf of bread to hide the box in, per Zedd’s instructions. hijinx ensues. the princess arrives to lick the bowl and Rachael drops the box in the cake to keep the princess from seeing. she then wants to know why the cake isn’t in the oven yet. the cook doesn’t know what else to do so she puts the cake in the oven with the orden box inside. eh. i don’t care for such chicanery. it feels like filler.
elsewhere Richard and Kahlan wait for Rahl to show up so Richard can shoot him with a crossbow and Kahlan thinks it’s going to be that easy. ha. and she’s telling him how when everything’s all done he could go off and find someone to start a family. then the d’Haran forces come by… and it’s not Lord Rahl, it’s a decoy. the real Rahl is apparently already in Tammerang (sp) crashing Violet’s birthday party.
the cook is going to try to cut the box out the cake and fix the damage before anyone notices. nope. she’s stopped and the cake is wheeled into the banquet hall. this is really annoying me now. i was so psyched up for this episode. Rachael was supposed to escape with the box in a loaf of bread. she was supposed to be a hero.
instead i bet Rahl is going to get the piece with the box in it. or if anyone saves the day, it’ll be Zedd. ugh.
I hope if there’s a positive outcome to this, Rachael is the one who orchestrates it.
ugh now Lord Rahal is cutting the cake. Zedd intervenes.
didn’t Zedd use the name Rubin Rebnick whatever in a later book. i do like call backs to canon.
Zedd the puppeteer makes a Richard the Seeker puppet. puppet Richard is cheeky, and puppet Rahl wins. then when Rahl gets up again to cut the cake, Zedd pulls out the stops and makes the puppets animate without their strings. Rahl turns back to watch and the cook gets the box from the cake and gives it to Rachael.
Rachael runs off.
Rahl goes to the box and realizes it’s a fake.
the queen says no one in her castle has magic.
Rahl is not pleased with her stupidity. he orders the castle sealed and the puppeteer brought to him.
Lord Rahl knows that the first wizard’s name is Zedd and disappeared around the time the Seeker was born.
the seeker is back, and so it would seem that the wizard would be as well.
Rachael escapes the same way she did in the book, by threatening to tell the princess that the guard wouldn’t let her out.
someone tells Rahl that the guards let out a little girl, he then sends the guards out after Rachael.
Rachael forgets which way she was supposed to go, and her doll won’t talk to her anymore. the guards see her and chase. when they have her surrounded, she’d rescued by Kahlan and Richard. Rachael gives them the box.
Zedd tells Rahl that he wasn’t defeated by the Seeker or the Great Wizard, but he was defeated by a 10 year old girl.
Zedd meets up with Richard and Kahlan and Richard with the cook in tow. mutherfucker. don’t tell me Rachael goes to live with the cook. she belongs with Chase and his 23 children. assholes. that is not what is supposed to happen.
Rahl kills the queen after promising to enslave her daughter. he then writes in his journey book to Richard et all… I Will Find You.

firstly, i understand bringing Zedd into the story instead of Gellar and giving Richard and Kahlan the B plot with the attempt Rahl assassination. they are the main characters of the series and thus need to be main characters in the episodes even if that’s not how it was in the book.
that said, not having Gellar did lose something. i miss that moment where you realize that he died because Rachel’s doll no longer spoke. then when the good guys come along they put everything together and see that Gellar died a hero. of course, they couldn’t kill Zedd to get the same effect.
why couldn’t Chase have been in the episode? he could have been the one to save Rachael in the woods. they must not be planning on making the rest of the books. i know Rachael was in Stone of Tears with Chase. and i understand she’s in the final trilogy.
i went in to this episode with high expectations. i understand that compromises were made with the sourse material and i’m okay with that. but my god. Rachael was the one who finally stood up to the princess and locked her in the box. they did not show how clever and brave she was. and most importantly, Rachael does not belong with that cook lady.

the previews show something about a baby that’s evil so they must destroy it, but Richard doesn’t want to kill the baby. and there’s Mord Sith. it looked all very dramatic and important, but i don’t remeber any damned thing about a baby. maybe it’s going to be a confessor’s son, because they have to kill those.

i’ll reserve judgement.

ah. Denna. for once, a character appears as i imagined. (well for second; Kahlen works.)
they’re talking about Kahlan betraying Richard, as Shota predicted. i shoulda re-read the books.
i know Shota has some sort of anti-Kahlan thing, but I think it doesn’t really culminate until Temple of the Winds… the “She’ll betray him ‘in her blood’” thing. ugh. that scene is still ingrained in my mind, and i read that book over 10 years ago. anyhow, this episode is gonna take me all evening to watch if i keep pausing it to ruminate.
holy shit. they’re making out. and she still hasn’t told him about her power. instead she stalks off without explanation and decides to leave them.
woah. she just said that there are other Confessors in hiding. that is so not canon. all the Confessors are supposed to be dead. (of course it makes more sense that there’s some alive in hiding, but that’s beside the point.)
nice little confrontation between Kahlan and Richard; and she just told him that she has no feelings for him. that may have been the first scene in which i found Richard truly believable. maybe i’m just really getting into this episode.
hell yeah. Mord Sith. how are they gonna G rate this now?
i appreciate the difficulty in explaining the whole Mord Sith thing and how they’re doing in here first with Denna and then with the old man telling Richard bits. i’m actually a little impressed with how they’re doing this. was the old guy in the book?
now for the B plot with Kahlan… what the hell. is Kahlan the Mother Confessor here? or just a run of the mill one? and who is this bitch who confessed a whole village for altruistic reasons? sure.
damn. Denna kicks ass. i did not expect her to live up to expectations.
right now, Denna is explaining to Richard what Kahlan’s powers would do to him. and right now, Denna is my most favoritest character in this damned tv show. Richard is adding everything up and Denna is brainwashing him. i love this show.
this episode is one closer to the book than any other.
except for the Kahlan / other Confessor B plot.
ooooh. scene straight from the book. RIchard just asked Mistress Denna if Constance could train him. she freaks out all pissed and demands to know why he prefers Constance…. and it’s because the Agil hurts her, and he doesn’t want her to hurt because of him. nice. very nice. Denna is visibly touched.
Richard just attacked Kahlan with Denna’s Agil. was that in the book? damnit. i shoulda re-read the book. i don’t think it was in the book. damn damn damn. Kahlan gets her time to speak to Richard, but through a hole in a door. Richard wants her to confess him so that he can withstand Denna; he’d rather be Kahlen’s slave than Denna’s. I’m sure this wasn’t in the book, but i think they’re trying to cover some of Richard’s internal stuff, externally. damn, i wish i was more familiar with the specifics of the book. was Kahlan captured in the book? i think she was in the end.
Richard is ordered to kill Kahlan and cannot do it. his mind seems to wake up and he and Kahlan put up a nice fight. Richard is able to withstand Denna and kill her. looked like the sword did turn white, but it lacked the significance it had in the book.
finally Kahlan admits the truth to Richard, he’s all hurt that he heard it first from Denna. this was a nice Kahlan/Richard scene. when she asks him if he can bury his feelings he says, ‘if there’s one thing i learned from Denna, it’s how to suffer in silence.”
woah. wait. they just revived Denna.

this has been my favorite episode.

omg omg omg. in the previews…
Rachael. i saw Rachael. i’m such a freak. there’s tears in my eyes.
i love this damned stupid show.
i’d forgotten her importance until now. that she was given one of the boxes of orden to carry (by wizard Gellar? of course it’s Zed in the previews). omg i gotta settle down.
i can’t wait until next week.
while Wikipedia-ing Wizards First Rule and Rachael i find out that she re-appears in the Chainfire books which i have sitting on a shelf, but never read. damnit. this is what i should have done on my vacation.

Will and Methos are buddy-ing up here and bonding on their common talent for observation. so is Will Methos’ long lost son?

oh look, Tesla’s still alive. i’m so surprised.

i’m guessing Methos is going to get killed and Will has to fill in with his powers of observation.

what do the Cabal want from Ashley if it isn’t intel? her blood? they could just take it without her consent. why do they need her cooperation?

meanwhile, back in the labyrinth, the boys have a pissing contest.

let me see, tasks geared towards talents. wouldn’t that mean that the invisible girl should be invisible? gee, that’s a difficult riddle. why are they getting naked? this is dumb.

if they’re supposed to work together, why aren’t Magnus and Vampire working together? have they not figured that out? or maybe they’re not supposed to.

and Methos and Jack the Ripper have a touching moment where they vent their emotions and reconcile. i’m moved. truely. *cough* now they’re buddies again.

why did they drug Ashley?

ooo Magnus looks a little jealous that Will got nekkid with invisible chick.

now suddenly Methos’ magic youth suit stops working and he gets old and dies. oh well. no more Methos. but not before telling Will he must solve another riddle. this was too easy… nice.

Ashley and Henry are escaping. that’s too easy. they’re doing just what the Cabal wants. but what is that?

i’m predicting that either Henry or Ashley has been brainwashed into stealing the vampire blood.

or invisible Clara is the spy? nah, it’s probably Jack the ripper, since Methos is dead.

Ashley woke up. she’s gonna steal the blood. i bet the woke in her her father’s superpower of transportation.

yup yup.

not bad.

shame about Methos, tho.

Here i am, bouncing around online with Sanctuary on in the background. I had 3 episodes in my DVR to catch up on. (still haven’t watched Heroes or Sarah Connor either)

anyhow

the Instinct episode was stupid. no biggie. fine for background entertainment. then i put on Revelations part 1 and who should cross my screen… Methos.

mutherfucker.

first Joe, now Methos. who’s next Duncan Mc Leod of the Clan Mc Leod?

back when the internet was new and exciting and it took 30 minutes to download a 20sec *.wav file (there were no MP3s), i collected a bunch of sound clips from my favorite movies and TV shows. some i used to customize windows sounds (ie, when i shut down my computer I’d hear Hal “I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that”), other sounds were purely for my own entertainment or to show friends, hey, look what I found… it’s the Goblin King singing the opening to “Magic Dance”. so naturally, i had several Highlander clips.

one i recall in particular…

Methos (to Duncan): I killed, but i didn’t just kill 50, I didn’t kill 100, i killed a thousand. i killed ten thousand. . . and i was good at it. and it wasn’t for vengeance, it wasn’t for greed; it was because i liked it. Cassandra was nothing. her village was nothing. and do you know who i was? I was death. Death on a horse. when mothers warned their children that the monster would get them… that was me. I was the nightmare that kept them awake at night. is that was you want to hear? the answer is yes. oh yes.

and yes, i just typed that from memory. i might google it to see if the quote is even accurate, assuming that some other idiot out there has it memorized.

ha! yes. here you go. link about 2/3 the way down.

but i’m on a tangent, and this has nothing to do with the episode of Sanctuary that i’m watching right now. in fact it’s been paused for quite some time so i could right this and revel in the fact that Methos has returned. except he’s not Methos anymore. he’s Dr James Watson. stupid show. I hope he has a sword.

stupid show. now he’s the real Sherlock Holmes. idiocy. why do shows feel it necessary to drag in real and/or well known literary figures? rather than create their own characters, they draw on ones everyone’s already familiar with. it’s a cop out.

Dr. Magnus’ “gift” was longevity, yet longevity came with the other “5’s” gifts. well, 3 of the others, anyway. she got gypped if you ask me.

i wasn’t paying too much attention at the beginning of the show. i think either Methos or Jack the Ripper is a double agent, but i don’t know which one. probably Methos.

the invisible girl, descendant of the invisible man, is annoying. weak melodrama. blah blah blah. you have the power, if only you believe in yourself.

the episode ends with Dr Magnus discovering that the lost vampire city they were going to, to retrieve the last vial of vampire blood from has been destroyed whilst Ashley and Henry have been captured by the Cabal.

on to part 2.
